Strategy

I decided to use Lion’s Safety Matches for my “Everything about one thing”-project. The Lion’s Match Company Pty (Ltd) is celebrating its 115th birthday next year and this idea seemed fitting and appropriate for the celebration. The aim of the booklet is to convey the company’s overall message and tell a bit more about the history of their safety matches while keeping to requirements of the ISTD assessment.

Because the focus of the project fell on typography I tried to incorporate it in as many possible ways I could.

Research and design development

The research and design development can be seen in my workbook. PDFs which show the progress of the project can also be provided.

Specifications

My specifications where the following:

  • I primarily made use of two fonts, namely Arial and Aparajita.

  • I aimed to duplicate the fonts used on the Lion’s Safety Matchbox.

  • I added a third font in which most of the body text appears, namely Kraftstoff

  • The booklet has nine pages and is zigzag folded which would be placed in an enlarged matchbox cover/case.

  • The aim of the packaging was to duplicate the Lion’s matchbox and place the booklet inside the box. Appearing to be one big matchbox.

  • The dimensions of one page is: Width – 17.78cm and Height – 12.7cm
