I am currently an honours journalism student of the North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus. I completed my BA degree in communication studies and language practice. I had English and Afrikaans as subjects up until my 2nd year and would like to someday complete both on third year level. I, however, found my passion in communication studies, journalism, designing, desktop publishing, digital media and anything to do with visual media.
Communication practitioners are the gatekeepers of information. They never see something as it is. There is always something more. They introduce new ideas to the world and plant the seed. With this power comes great responsibility, because the idea that sprouts from the seed is your handy-work. Journalists and people working in the media should always be aware of the influence that they have on others.
I want to be a part of this dynamic process. The process that is constantly active and never stops. A person that works is this industry sits in the front row seat of history-in-the-making. Everything happens right in front of you and you are a part of it. You can report on it and document this moment in time. I want to experience this firsthand, whether it has to do with new fashion trends, agricultural equipment, lifestyle decisions, art, economic news, sport, the list is endless.
People make news. People have stories to tell. I want to tell those stories.
In order to make a difference I constantly make an effort to better my skills and knowledge. By reading and staying up to date with news throughout the world, one obtains a wide scope and understanding of society.
In the course that I am studying I have been introduced to editing, translation, subtitling, interpreting, desktop publishing, website designing, journalism, public relations, and many more. I feel that I am skilled in a great of many fields and have a lot to offer.
I am use to working under pressure and reaching specific set deadlines. I am quite the perfectionist, but also live in my own organised-chaos that I believe give me my creative ideas. I love being creative and to express myself in various ways. I am an aspiring actor, singer, performer, radio- and news broadcaster, presenter, etc. I feel that I have great people skills as I find new acquaintances and their everyday lives interesting. I tend to listen carefully and remember random aspects of individuals that caught my attention.
I believe that I can make a difference in any occupation I take on.
